Former Zambian Foreign Affairs Minister, Joe Malanji, has been convicted and sentenced to four years with hard labour after pulling off what is now described as the biggest money heist in the country’s history.

In 2018, while using the official Zambian Presidential Jet on government business, Malanji allegedly diverted his mission to Turkey, where he withdrew a staggering $11 million in cash from the Zambian Embassy’s bank account.

He then reportedly flew back to Lusaka and splashed the fortune on two private helicopters, raising eyebrows and triggering investigations that have now landed him in jail.

Authorities say the brazen theft, carried out in broad daylight under the guise of official duty, stands as one of Zambia’s most shocking cases of abuse of state resources
