Emmerson Mnangagwa this morning met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing, cementing Zimbabwe’s place among Beijing’s closest global allies.

The encounter saw China elevate Zimbabwe’s relations from a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to the coveted status of All-Weather Relations with a Shared and Common Future a diplomatic tier reserved for a handful of nations, including Russia.

The move underscores China’s deepening confidence in Harare as a strategic partner. President Xi’s announcement places Zimbabwe in rare company, with only Congo-Brazzaville and Egypt representing Africa in Beijing for the occasion.

The two leaders last met in 2024 during commemorations of the 80th Anniversary of China’s Victory against Fascism, a symbolic gesture that reaffirmed the historical bond between the two nations.
