Mozambique’s main opposition leader, Venâncio António Bila Mondlane, who was scheduled to deliver the keynote address at Job Sikhala’s book launch in South Africa, was barred from travelling by his government, sparking a storm of criticism across the region.
Sikhala, speaking at the launch, condemned the move, saying it was further proof of shrinking democratic space in Southern Africa.
He urged for unity among regional progressive forces to resist the persecution of opposition voices and ordinary citizens.
