Former ZANU–PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has taken aim at government over the state of Zimbabwe’s largest referral hospital, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, saying cosmetic changes mean little without real improvements in equipment and medicines.
This follows a recent visit to the hospital by Youth Minister Tino Machakaire, after which renovations on some sections of the facility began.
In a strongly worded post on X, Kasukuwere wrote“After Min Machakaire’s visit to Parirenyatwa what progress has been achieved to date with regards the situation that was obtaining! Health and the welfare of the medical profession is paramount. More energies should be invested in improving the situation in our health institutions!”
While the facelift is underway, staff insiders say the hospital remains crippled by critical shortages of functional machinery and essential drugs.
Patients are still being forced to buy basic medication from private pharmacies, while doctors and nurses struggle to operate with outdated or broken-down equipment.
