Award-winning journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono has publicly expressed gratitude to political activist Ali Naka, saying his intervention saved him from what he describes as a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) entrapment attempt.

In a post on X, Chin’ono wrote “This man saved my life this year. His village intelligence is the reason I am not in jail in Harare. Without him, I would be sitting in jail sharing stories with Walter Mzembi. Thank you @ali_naka.”

Chin’ono hinted that there had been a plot to lure him back into Zimbabwe under false pretenses, which he claims would have landed him behind bars.

He added that the full details of the operation would be revealed one day, but for now he wanted to give thanks while Naka was alive to hear it.

Chin’ono has been a consistent critic of corruption and state repression in Zimbabwe, often clashing with authorities over his outspoken stance.
