Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has praised Chimurenga music legend Thomas Mapfumo for nurturing and handing over his musical legacy to the next generation.

In a tweet, Chin’ono described as “so beautiful” the moment when Kurai Makore son of Mapfumo’s younger brother performed alongside the icon during a recent show.

Chin’ono said the symbolic moment was emotional, noting how rare it is to see such deliberate succession in African leadership.

“So emotional to witness an African passing on the baton, something that our leaders fail to do! A living legacy carried forward in song; the baton of Chimurenga does not die, it only changes hands. That is how leadership should be, mudhara has led by example,” he wrote.
