Controversial Zimbabwean preacher Apostle Talent Farai Chiwenga has come under fire after delivering a sermon in which he justified killing critics, rejected Zimbabwe’s laws, and invoked violent religious rhetoric all while defending his short-lived 4-day marriage.
In a fiery sermon delivered at Jesus Revelation Ministries in Centurion, South Africa, and streamed online, Chiwenga lashed out at those questioning the collapse of his marriage, calling them “barbaras” and “useless people.”
Citing Genesis 9:5, he claimed“If you fear God, use your hands to kill the murderer… We don’t care about the law of Zimbabwe if it does not tally with the law of God.”
Chiwenga further praised Sharia-style punishments such as amputations and public executions, describing them as effective tools for crime prevention. His comments appeared to endorse vigilante killings, even asserting that believers have a religious duty to take justice into their own hands.
Legal experts warn that Chiwenga’s remarks may constitute incitement to violence, violating multiple sections of Zimbabwean and South African law. Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, along with South Africa’s Riotous Assemblies Act, both criminalize calls to violence and threats to public safety.
Christian author Brilliant Pongo condemned the sermon“To glorify violence and suggest God sanctions murder is a betrayal of the Gospel. Chiwenga’s rhetoric is reckless, unbiblical, and undermines the rule of law.”
Analyst Howard Nyoni added “From what he is manifesting, if we were living in a normal community, Chiwenga would be in prison.”
