Prominent journalist and anti-corruption advocate Hopewell Chin’ono has weighed in on the ongoing discussion around Zimbabweans accessing healthcare in South Africa, urging leaders to prioritize fixing Zimbabwe’s own healthcare system.
His remarks came shortly after Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) chairperson Jessie Majome expressed hope that a meeting with South Africa’s Public Protector, Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka, would yield positive results in ensuring that Zimbabwean nationals can access South African healthcare services.
In a sharply worded post, Chin’ono wrote “All this will be over if we build hospitals, stock them with medicines and medical equipment, and pay our medical staff livable wages.
A healthy nation is not built on slogans but on hospitals, medicines, and well-paid medical staff. Stop the looting of public funds.”
Chin’ono’s comments reflect growing public frustration over the government’s failure to deliver basic services, even as political leaders continue to seek support and goodwill from regional neighbors.
