The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is under scrutiny following allegations of academic misconduct involving the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Sources within the institution claim that senior administrators may be attempting to push through a graduation process based on irregular academic practices.
At the center of the controversy is Dr. Stanzia Moyo, the Dean of the Faculty, who is also the wife of Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerayi Moyo. Some staff allege that her position and political connections including her husband’s reported association with ZANU-PF official Owen “Mudha” Ncube have been used to pressure academic staff to continue teaching beyond the semester calendar.
According to the allegations, certain students were registered for modules (LAICSBFR301/302/401) as late as 28 July 2025, even though the semester had already ended. These same modules are reportedly scheduled for exams on 8 August 2025 raising questions about instructional time and academic integrity.
Some lecturers allege that adjunct instructors without proper qualifications were used earlier in the semester, and that the institution now seeks to validate their work through backdated or rushed teaching efforts and this might tarnish the imagine of the institution.
