President Paul Kagame has praised Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote for his ongoing efforts in championing African-driven development and economic transformation.
The commendation came during the launch of Zaria Court, a $25 million sports and entertainment complex in Kigali, on Monday, July 28. The state-of-the-art facility is a project by Giants of Africa, founded by former NBA star Masai Ujiri, and serves as a major highlight of the ongoing Giants of Africa Festival, which runs through August 2.
Kagame, speaking at the event, highlighted Dangote’s influence in mobilising Africa’s leaders both political and business to align around a shared vision for progress.
He said, “This has been to galvanise the understanding, the support, the buy-in of our continent… to really focus on what is it that can take Africa from where it is and put it where it should be.”
Dangote, Africa’s richest man and head of the Dangote Group, was previously part of “The African Renaissance Retreat” in Kigali a private summit where about 50 of Africa’s top business and policy leaders discussed strategies for the continent’s future.
The launch of Zaria Court, part of a broader initiative to empower African youth through sports, arts, and leadership, adds to Rwanda’s vision of becoming a hub for talent and innovation across the continent.
