Marry Mubaiwa, the former wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has lost a luxury property and two Range Rovers in South Africa after the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria ruled that they were proceeds of crime.
The forfeiture order granted on December 5, 2022, by Justice JJ Strijdom declared that Erf 191 Sterrewag, a high-end Pretoria property, along with two Land Rover vehicles, be forfeited to the South African State.
These assets were linked to money laundering and illicit financial flows and had been under a preservation order since February 2022.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed the ruling and praised the move as a success of cross-border legal cooperation.
The High Court further directed that the forfeited assets be placed under the care of an auctioneer, with the proceeds to be used to compensate victims of the alleged criminal conduct.
Mubaiwa, already embroiled in several legal battles in Zimbabwe, has yet to publicly comment on the ruling.
