Minnie Baloyi Chiwenga, public figure and wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has publicly praised author and women’s empowerment advocate Farai Mpofu for her thought-provoking presentation and newly released book, Township Girls.

Writing on Facebook, the Second Lady expressed her gratitude to Mpofu, who had gifted her a copy of the book following an event where she delivered a talk on investment, financial literacy, and breaking gender stereotypes.

“Thank you, Farai Mpofu, for the book ‘Township Girls’ you gifted me with on Saturday. I enjoyed your talk about the importance of investment and financial literacy,” she shared.

But it was Mpofu’s strong stance against the stereotype that “women can’t work together” that resonated most deeply with Baloyi Chiwenga.

“Most of all, I agree with your comment that ‘it’s not true that women can’t work together.’ I find it the most annoying statement of our lifetime, because we have to judge people as people not based on their gender,” she wrote.

Township Girls explores the journeys of ambitious women navigating entrepreneurship, leadership, and social change in Zimbabwe’s high-density communities. Mpofu has long championed financial independence and collaboration among women as key drivers of sustainable development.
