Prominent lawyer and former legislator Fadzayi Mahere has fired back at Minister Tino Machakaire, following reports of a lawsuit he filed against her allegedly over a social media post criticizing public officials.
Taking to her official platform, Mahere questioned the legal foundation of the suit, pointing out that the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) reportedly being cited was repealed five years ago.
“Good morning Honourable Minister,
1. Are you not aware that the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act was repealed five years ago?
2. Were you not a Member of Parliament when this law was removed from our statute books?”

The comments come amid rising political tension and public scrutiny over how government officials handle criticism. Mahere’s statement is seen by many as a direct legal rebuttal to what she considers a baseless lawsuit and a misuse of legal instruments to silence public discourse.
