The Christian world is mourning the passing of legendary American televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, who died on July 1, 2025, at the age of 90  a death some say was prophesied by Zimbabwean preacher Prophet Uebert Angel back in March 2022.

Swaggart, a towering figure in global evangelism for over 70 years, passed away peacefully in Baton Rouge, surrounded by family. The cause was cardiac arrest, which he suffered on June 15.

An old prophecy by Uebert Angel, leader of Spirit Embassy: The GoodNews Church, has resurfaced online. In a 2022 broadcast, Angel reportedly foretold the impending death of a “great evangelist from America whose voice shaped nations.” Followers now believe this was a reference to Swaggart, widely regarded as one of the most influential preachers of the 20th century.

“He will be taken after a long life, and it will shake the Christian world,” Angel allegedly said at the time.

Swaggart’s influence stretched across continents, thanks to his globally broadcast programs such as The Jimmy Swaggart Telecast and The Campmeeting Hour. His gospel music also reached millions, selling over 17 million albums.

Despite scandals in the late 1980s that briefly derailed his ministry, Swaggart bounced back, continuing to preach, write, and sing until his death. His SonLife Broadcasting Network, launched in 1995, continues to reach more than 300 million homes worldwide.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances Swaggart, his son Donnie, and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Whether coincidence or divine foresight, the fulfilment of Prophet Uebert Angel’s words has reignited discussions on prophetic ministry and its role in modern Christianity.
