South African billionaire and the country’s wealthiest man, Johann Peter Rupert, has reportedly dismissed claims of a “white genocide” in South Africa during a conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Rupert, known for his significant influence in both business and philanthropic circles, emphasized that the violence in South Africa is driven by high crime rates and not racially motivated attacks targeting white citizens.
He pointed out that even in the Western Cape governed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) crime remains a serious problem, with areas like the Cape Flats experiencing some of the highest murder rates in the country.
Rupert acknowledged that some of the violent crimes are committed by undocumented foreign nationals, but reiterated that the core issues are widespread unemployment and systemic criminality, not ethnic targeting or genocide.
His comments challenge a long-standing narrative that has been promoted in some international circles, particularly among right-wing commentators, who have portrayed South Africa as a country where white farmers and citizens are under siege.
