Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) self-proclaimed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu has intensified his grip on Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, issuing a stern warning to legislators to attend a party caucus meeting or risk expulsion.

Tshabangu, who has controversially claimed leadership within CCC, invoked Section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution, which allows for the recall of legislators, to assert his authority in recent months. He has already used this clause to recall several opposition representatives.

Addressing members during a Wednesday meeting, Tshabangu declared that those who “choose chaos over contribution” would be dealt with “firmly and decisively.” His latest move is seen as part of a broader plan to consolidate internal control and redefine the party’s strategic direction.

He also announced the formal introduction of “Document X,” described as a bold political programme of action. This document outlines five strategic steps aimed at securing state power and transforming governance in Zimbabwe. According to Tshabangu, the plan prioritizes people-centered leadership and seeks to address longstanding national grievances.

In a statement during the same meeting, he added: “We will also elect leadership for the joint party caucus  leaders who will embody our vision and values.”

Observers believe that Tshabangu’s efforts, including the launch of Document X, may also be part of a larger political play to support extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term to 2030  a move likely to stir further controversy within Zimbabwe’s political landscape.
