Zimbabwe’s public healthcare system is facing unprecedented scrutiny as former Finance Minister Tendai Biti launched a passionate attack, describing it as being in a “deep structural crisis” and labeling the current state of hospitals as a “slow genocide against the citizens.”

His comments come amidst growing public outrage over deteriorating medical facilities and inadequate healthcare services across the country.

Biti’s stark assessment contrasts sharply with statements from Deputy Minister of Health Sleiman Timios Kwidini, who recently claimed that “people are happy with the state of hospitals,” dismissing widespread complaints from patients and healthcare workers alike.

Many Zimbabweans have expressed frustration over shortages of medicines, dilapidated infrastructure, and a lack of basic medical supplies, which have led to preventable deaths and suffering.
