In a significant turn of events, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesman, George Charamba, has recognized the legitimate grievances of University of Zimbabwe (UZ) lecturers who have taken to the streets in protest against their inadequate pay and working conditions.
The lecturers, represented by the Association of University Teachers (AUT), have voiced that their compensation has plummeted to what they describe as “slave wages,” severely impacting their ability to fulfill their academic responsibilities.
Charamba’s statement promises a personal commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the protesting lecturers.
