The late Professor Sibusiso Bengu, former South African Minister of Education, is to be laid to rest in his hometown of Pretoria on Friday

Professor Bengu, who served as Minister of Education from 1994 to 1999, was instrumental in reshaping the educational landscape of post-apartheid South Africa.

He championed policies aimed at increasing access to quality education for all South Africans, particularly those in historically disadvantaged communities. His tenure is remembered for the introduction of the National Curriculum Statement, which sought to provide a more inclusive and equitable education system.

He passed away at the age of 90 on 30 December 2024.
