This week, paediatric surgeons at Parirenyatwa Hospital helped a child with cancer in both kidneys.
-
Wilms tumor is one of the most common childhood cancers, but it usually affects only one kidney.
-
Surgeons Dr. Muparadzi and Dr. Moyo led a team that performed:
-
A nephron‑sparing operation on one kidney
-
A radical nephrectomy (complete removal) on the other kidney
-
-
This highly specialised procedure – the first of its kind at Parirenyatwa – removes all cancer while leaving enough healthy kidney tissue so the child can survive without dialysis.
-
Though cancer is a devastating diagnosis, children can recover and be cured with proper care.
-
Hats off to the surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff at Parirenyatwa.
-
Thank you to @KidsOperating for equipping the children’s theatre – lives are being saved there.
