Hawks Arrest Malawian Fumu Mkalira Msiska, Gladness Msiska Mkhonto, and Bongani Mkhonto

  • The trio registered 773 ghost workers and defrauded the UIF TERS fund during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • They fraudulently obtained R26 million.

  • They used the money to buy luxury properties in Middelburg, White River, and Pretoria.

  • They also bought luxury vehicles: BMW, Mercedes Benz, Land Rover, and Toyota Fortuner.

  • They used stolen identities, contact details, and addresses of unknown people to lodge false claims.

  • A victim, a woman from KwaZulu-Natal, tried to claim her UIF benefits but discovered a company she never worked for (A&F Consulting) had claimed all her contributions.

  • The Hawks intervened, leading to the arrest of all three.
