HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT PAUL KAGAME TO UNDERTAKE A STATE VISIT TO BOTSWANA

GABORONE, 29th April 2026: His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, will undertake a State Visit to Botswana, on 6th – 7th May 2026, at the invitation of the President, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko. The visit will be preceded by the Second Session of the Botswana and Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC), scheduled to take place on 4th – 5th May 2026, underscoring both countries commitment to structured and results-driven cooperation.

The State Visit marks an important step in advancing Botswana-Rwanda bilateral relations towards high impact economic partnership, building on progress made since the 2019 State Visit which include the agreement to establish the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) as a framework for deepening bilateral engagement.

During the visit, the two leaders will hold Official Talks focusing on digital trade, tourism, animal vaccines, transport connectivity, and cooperation in the diamond value chain. President Kagame is also expected to visit the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB).

A number of agreements are expected to be signed, including cooperation on trade and investment, institutional collaboration between Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) and Rwanda Development Board (RDB), and a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement to facilitate business and investment flows.

A business forum will also take place on 5th May 2026.

His Excellency President Kagame, will be accompanied by Government Ministers, Senior Government Officials, and a business delegation.
