- On Sunday, 1 March 2026, two detectives from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare CID Homicide Division were fatally shot by a suspected armed robber in Zaka, Masvingo Province. Â The deceased have been identified as Bernard Chindeke (38) and McKenzie Chitowe (42). The shooting occurred in Ndume Village, Chimedza area, under Chief Ndanga. The detectives had tracked two armed robbery suspects to the village. They successfully apprehended one suspect in the early hours of Sunday morning.
- The second suspect opened fire on the officers during the operation. Detective Chindeke died instantly at the scene. Detective Chitowe was rushed to Ndanga Referral Hospital and later transferred toward Masvingo Provincial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. Police have launched an intensive manhunt for the remaining suspect, identified as Daniel Munyanyi (50) of Ndume Village.
