Ashton Guramatunhu, a Zimbabwean man, was sentenced to 40 months (three years and four months) in a UK prison after pleading guilty to a significant four-year fraud operation.
Between January 2015 and April 2019, Guramatunhu used the stolen professional credentials of a genuine, qualified nurse named Christmas Musaruwa to secure employment at six different nursing homes across the North East of England. Guramatunhu was ineligible to work in the care sector due to prior convictions.
This scheme allowed him to obtain wages totaling approximately £145,000 before the fraud was uncovered. He was arrested in 2020 upon returning to the UK from Zambia.
