Range Rover Sport Fraud Allegations
-
A 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography, valued at US$250,000, was publicly announced by the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo as a gift to prominent lawyer Advocate Lewis Uriri.
-
The vehicle was allegedly imported using fraudulent customs documentation processed in Uriri’s name without his knowledge.
Alleged Fraud Details
-
Identity hijacking: The car was bought from Johannesburg dealer Verve Auto Sports and cleared through ZIMRA entirely under Lewis Uriri’s name.
-
Uriri says he had no knowledge of the importation and never authorized it.
-
Expired/cancelled papers: The customs paperwork used an uncertified copy of Uriri’s old passport.
-
That passport had been cancelled in 2024 after running out of pages, so it was no longer valid for identity purposes.
-
Financials: Purchase price recorded as R2,882,782.
-
US$74,460.57 was paid in full to ZIMRA for import duties, allegedly processed falsely under Uriri’s name.
Dealership Response
-
Exquisite Motors, where the car was originally kept, denied involvement in the fraudulent paperwork.
-
It confirmed the vehicle has since been moved to an undisclosed location.
-
ZIMRA and Advocate Uriri declined to make further public comments.
