Zimbabwe Demands Immediate Lifting of Sanctions on SADC Anti-Sanctions Day

    10

Zimbabwe has once again called for the immediate and unconditional removal of sanctions imposed on the country. The plea was made by acting Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Professor Paul Mavima during the 2026 SADC Anti-Sanctions Day commemorations held in Bindura on October 24, 2026. Addressing thousands gathered at Chipadze Stadium, Professor Mavima asserted that the sanctions are unjustified, unfair, and illegal, having been imposed by a select few based on fabrications.

He emphasized that Zimbabwe remains steadfast in its pursuit of economic transformation, aiming for upper middle-income economy status by 2030, despite the coercive measures. The commemorations, held under the theme “Leveraging regional integration and global partnership for economic transformation beyond illegal sanctions,” underscored Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and building an economy rooted in domestic production and investment. The government also cited ongoing infrastructure projects, housing developments, and improvements in various sectors as evidence of progress beyond sanctions.
