Burial
-
Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke, will be buried side by side.
-
Date: tomorrow, 8 October 2026.
-
Time: 2 pm.
-
Place: Sahwira Glen Forest Memorial Park, Harare.
-
Plot: hilltop, near his mother’s grave.
-
The burial is open to the public.
Gravesite
-
The space is large enough for roughly 10 additional graves.
-
This has prompted speculation that a mausoleum could be built later.
-
There is no confirmed public report that an “outside house” is currently under construction specifically for their coffins.
Existing family memorial
-
Chivayo had already built a substantial memorial for his late mother, Canisia, at the same cemetery.
-
It features a black-granite structure, a permanent canopy on pillars, an arched headstone, railing, and a visitor’s bench.
-
Some described it as costing about as much as a house in a high-density suburb.
Coffins
-
Both coffins have been shown ahead of the service.
-
His coffin: flag-draped after he was named a Provincial Hero.
-
Her coffin: Mercedes-style grille.
Death
-
The couple died with three others in a helicopter crash and fire.
-
Date and location: 30 September 2026, at Kudenga Farm near Marondera.
-
They were returning from Gandami, where they had been overseeing construction of a family mansion.
-
Family statements said the remains were too badly damaged for public viewing.
-
Some reports also said heads were not recovered.
