Prominent Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife, and four others have tragically died in a helicopter crash near Marondera. The incident, which occurred recently, has sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe and the Southern African region. Forensic experts are actively working to identify the bodies, which were severely affected by the crash, leading to a decision against public body viewing for Chivayo and his wife.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has granted Wicknell Chivayo provincial hero status and has visited his children and ex-wife to offer condolences. The President himself reportedly travelled a 520km road trip to Mutare for an event, as bad weather grounded helicopter travel just days after Chivayo’s fatal crash, highlighting the impact of the tragedy.
