Zimbabwe Man Sells Car Hired Using Fake Zimbabwe IDs

A man using a fake ID under the name Blessing Mandungumana hired a Honda Fit GK3 from Xtreme Car Hire.
• He subsequently used another fake ID, under the name Innocent Haranda, to sell the same vehicle to the reporting individual.
• The vehicle’s registration book and the ID presented matched the name used, lending an appearance of authenticity to the transaction.
• The vehicle was advertised for US$6,500; negotiations resulted in an agreed price of US$6,200.
• A payment of US$6,000 was made directly to the suspect, while an additional US$200 was sent via EcoCash to an individual the suspect claimed was an agent.
• It was later discovered that the EcoCash account was registered under the same name used to hire the vehicle.
• The suspects are reportedly creating and using fake IDs, driver’s licences, and vehicle registration books to perpetrate these scams.
• Approximately three weeks after the purchase, the vehicle was repossessed upon notification that it was a rental vehicle.
• The suspect has since gone missing.
• The reporting individual is appealing to the public for information on the suspect’s identity or whereabouts and can be contacted at 0719509300.
• A reward is being offered for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest.
• The matter was initially reported at Marlborough Police Station and has since been transferred to the Southerton Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) for investigation.
