Itireleng Samuel Moatswi (a Motswana innovator) has produced Botswana’s first domestically designed car prototype, called the Itireleng DC 86 (nicknamed KYB – Koloi ya Batswana, meaning “Vehicle of Batswana”).

Current Status

  • Completion: About 85% finished – only final road-ready tweaks remain.

  • Build Location: Built mostly in his workshop in Thamaga, Botswana, using local body materials.

  • Key Parts: Engine, gearbox, and suspension come from established global brands (for reliability).

Future Plans

  • Production Goal: Plans for mass production with at least 65% local materials.

  • Design Focus: Engineered to handle tough local road conditions.

Funding

  • Need: Seeking about P500,000 to scale up and commercialize the project.
