Rugare Gumbo says a senior official named George (also called Joji) has made a weak, late defense of Constitutional Amendment Bill 3 (CAB3). Gumbo claims this proves George has failed in his duties and is divided in his loyalties. He predicts President Mnangagwa will fire George soon. Gumbo also says George is the real author of Vice-President Chiwenga’s controversial statements.
Who is George?
George Charamba is the Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications. He has been the presidential spokesperson since around 2000, under both Mugabe and Mnangagwa. In 2018, he was moved from being Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information to his current role, bringing the spokesperson’s office directly under the presidency.

Lawyer Elatone Bonongwe was sentenced to 20 years (15 effective) for masterminding an armed robbery on October 26, 2025, at an engineer’s home in Mt Darwin. He planned the robbery, recruited the gang, and pointed out the house. Over $30,000 was stolen, and the victim was badly hurt. Bonongwe was arrested the next day after accomplices named him. WhatsApp messages also linked him to the crime.
