Spur Corporation is shifting its strategy away from directly owning restaurants, focusing instead on franchising. It is currently reviewing its 14 company-owned outlets and has already sold one Doppio Zero to a franchisee, with two more sales in progress. The group plans to open 56 new restaurants this year, mostly in South Africa. Despite tough economic conditions, customer numbers rose slightly, with Spur and Panarottis performing well in December. However, challenges include supply chain issues, rising beef prices, and increased competition. Breakfast sales grew by 8% while Internationally, sales rose 14%, driven largely by Mauritius. Spur Corporation owns a portfolio of restaurant brands including Spur, Panarottis, RocoMamas, Hussar Grill, Doppio Zero, Pizza & Vino, Modern Tailors, and John Dory’s. The group operates a total of 640 outlets in South Africa and 113 internationally, though it maintains direct ownership of only about 14 restaurants, which are across the Hussar Grill, Doppio Zero, Pizza & Vino, and Modern Tailors brands. Among its specific brands, Panarottis has 97 outlets, John Dory’s has 44, and Spur is the dominant brand, accounting for 64% of the group’s South African restaurant sales.
