Chinhoyi University of Technology Council invites suitably qualified and experienced applicants for the senior position of Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer, reporting to the Chancellor through the University Council and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science and Technology Development.
Person Specification
Visionary leadership
– Drive the University’s vision, mission and strategic objectives to champion Education 5.0 within the framework of national development strategies and heritage‑driven education.
Academic excellence – Possess an earned Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from a reputable university and hold the rank of Professor.
Senior management experience – Minimum 10 years at a senior administrative level in higher education or research institutions.
Research & innovation track record – Proven ability to re-engineer process and production technologies through innovative, heritage‑based learning and teaching in a research environment.
Industry networking & resource mobilisation – Substantial experience in fundraising and mobilising resources for infrastructural development to produce knowledgeable and competent human capital nationally, regionally and internationally.
Education 5.0 capacity – Intellectual ability to deliver education rooted in Zimbabwe’s culture and heritage, underpinning a knowledge‑based modern economy.
Research & commercialisation – Capacity to drive research, innovation and entrepreneurial output, promoting new processing technologies and product commercialisation.
Legislative & regulatory knowledge – Understanding of frameworks for higher education management in promoting science and technology for nation building.
Public finance management – Proven capacity to manage public finances and strategically develop human capital for both public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
Provide visionary and strategic leadership in all academic endeavours, including teaching, research, and development of practical competence through innovation to support industrialisation and commercialisation.
Administer the University to ensure efficiency and good governance in academic and related business.
Formulate and implement a 21st‑century education system in line with National Development Strategies, the University’s Strategic Plan, and Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 action plan.
Initiate and oversee education policies, including monitoring and evaluation of research, development and innovations.
Lead resource mobilisation, endowment and donation programmes to improve ranking and research output.
Develop strategic linkages with local and international organisations (private and public).
Create harmonious working relationships among institutions, staff, students, and public/private organisations.
Attract and nurture high‑end skilled human capital; foster technology‑driven start‑ups and incubation hubs.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (Council, Senate, government).
Ensure state‑of‑the‑art administration, learning, laboratory, cultural, recreation and sporting facilities.
Attract a diversified, gender‑sensitive and mixed international student body and faculty.
