WATCH LIVE: Chamisa Advisor Prof Mugano Announces He Is Working With Mnangagwa,” Professor Gift Mugano clarifies his position regarding his professional engagement with the Government of Zimbabwe under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

What is the latest update?

Professor Gift Mugano has publicly stated that he is prepared to work with the Mnangagwa administration specifically in a technical and advisory capacity to assist in resolving Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic challenges. He emphasizes that this is not a political defection but a professional contribution to national development, despite his history as an advisor to opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.

What did Prof. Mugano say about working with Mnangagwa?

Professor Mugano explained that his primary motivation is the stability and recovery of the Zimbabwean economy. He articulated several key points regarding his decision:

  • He views his involvement as a patriotic duty to provide expert economic guidance regardless of political affiliation.

  • He clarified that his expertise is available to the “government of the day” to help address hyperinflation and currency instability.

  • Mugano stressed that being a technical expert means he can serve the state without necessarily being a member of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Why is this significant for Zimbabwe?

The announcement is viewed as a major development in Zimbabwean politics and economics for the following reasons:

  • Bridging the Divide: It represents a rare instance of a high-profile figure associated with the opposition (CCC/Nelson Chamisa) explicitly offering to work with the ZANU-PF-led government.

  • Economic Urgency: Mugano’s willingness to step in highlights the severity of the economic crisis, suggesting that expert intervention is needed beyond political rhetoric.

Sequence of Events

  • Initial Association: Prof. Mugano gains prominence as a leading economic advisor to Nelson Chamisa and a critic of government fiscal policy.

  • Policy Critique: Over several months, Mugano frequently appears in media outlets criticizing the introduction of the ZiG and other monetary policies.

  • The Announcement: In this audio broadcast, he confirms his readiness to engage directly with the Mnangagwa administration on a technical level to provide solutions.

FOLKS I HAVE MOVED ON: I AM THE DANIEL AND JOSEPH OF TODAY

This statement is motivated by incessant questions raised by the public in recent weeks regarding my recent remarks towards economic progress made by the Government of Zimbabwe. I thought that I must set the record straight on where I stand by penning this statement.

I know that more questions and attacks will come. I will not pen any statement on the same in the future. My actions will speak louder than words.

The bible teaches us that Daniel served under at least 5 Kings including King Nebuchadnezzar, Darius, Belshazzar, Merodach and Cyrus.

The bible in Daniel 1: 17 tells that God gave Daniel wisdom, knowledge, understanding of the things of the world (literature) and the grace to interpret dreams. Daniel used his gift to serve respective these governments in a more effective and positive way.

Likewise, Joseph worked under the Government of Potiphar. We all know that Joseph was led by God to serve his Government in a positive way. He foresaw 7 years of good harvest and 7 years of devastating droughts and guided the leadership of Potiphar to adequately prepare for the devastating droughts. In the process, he was used by God to serve many lives beyond Egypt.

I am not anyway near Daniel and Joseph from spiritual perspective but my actions are inspired and modelled around how these great men of God worked with their respective governments.

Forget about what I said during my Saul moment. I had my Damascus moment – a point of reflection and soul searching. I am new. I am now Paul. I will never revert back to the old Saul!

I have moved on. Its done. Ndizvo zviripo.

It will be amiss if I end this statement without acknowledging positive strides made by the Government of Zimbabwe:

(a) Macroeconomic stability –
@ReserveBankZIM
has done exceptionally well in managing policy instruments under its purview to foster price stability;
(b) Mining – mining revolution is taking place with gold hitting record output of 46.7 tonnes with lithium and base metals standing out as our flagship exports;
(c) Construction – everywhere you go, you see massive housing construction, shopping malls and off course road rehabilitation which has become a hallmark of the Second Republic is one of the positive things taking place in this country.
(d) Agriculture – agricultural revolution is taking place quietly and steadily with dairy, cereals and tobacco recording massive growth and the growth trajectory is anticipated to remain positive

@obertjiri

(e) Foreign currency generation is massive and unprecedented and the growth trajectory is positive.
(f) Zimbabwe is now no.1 producer of Steel in Africa courtesy of Dinson Iron and Steel Company’s staggering US$1 billion investment into the steel industry.

This is a good story worth supporting.

Of course, from the economic front, fiscal pressures and debt levels are worrying. On the social front, social ills remains (joblessness, high drugs abuse, high poverty levels and health indicators are not looking good).

Like Daniel and Joseph, underpinned by honest, objectivity, ethical and professional conduct, my focus now is to work with the Government of Zimbabwe – the Government of the day. My focus to provide uninterrupted evidence – based policy advice & strategies aimed at dealing with fiscal pressures, supporting macroeconomic stability and economic growth, and pushing the agenda towards shared and inclusive growth.

END/

I wish you all a prosperous and productive 2026.
