    • Zimbabwe has officially launched two transformative initiatives focused on sustainable soil management and water governance.
    • The projects aim to empower the country to sustainably manage its vital soil and water resources.
    • These initiatives are designed to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
    • The launch aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 and commitments to food security and access to clean water for all citizens.

The projects, titled “Capacity Development on Sustainable Soil Management in the Global South” and “National Water Roadmap towards 2030 Sustainable Development Goals,” were officially unveiled in Harare. Dr. Anxious Masuka, Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, emphasized the government’s collective pledge to food security and reliable water supply for 35,000 rural communities and 10,000 institutions across Zimbabwe. These initiatives underscore a commitment to enhanced technical capacity, inclusive governance, and South-South cooperation to achieve national development goals.

The sustainable soil management project will establish national capacities for soil mapping and laboratory analysis, fostering international technical collaboration. It will be followed by an inception workshop to finalize implementation modalities and select field trial sites. Simultaneously, the National Water Roadmaps project will form a country taskforce to implement national activities, guided by global technical frameworks. These efforts are central to the nation’s rural development agenda and its broader Vision 2030.
