Ugandan president appoints his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba as military chief

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, 79, has appointed his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new chief of defence.

The 48-year-old replaces Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi who was appointed Minister of State for Trade in the new cabinet reshuffle announced Thursday evening.

In 2022 Yoweri sacked his only son from commander of the army’s land forces post after he made threats on X, to invade Kenya.

The cabinet shuffling saw to the sacking of five ministers.
