The Great Zimbabwe University registrar, Sinikiwe Gwatidzo is being accused by students and faculty staff of running down the university.
It is said that there have been a huge number of resignations from the Great Zimbabwe university dur to Gwatidzo’s autocratic leadership style and her favouritism.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr ZVobo has been on leave since October 2023 and Gwatidzo is now in charge of making key appointments. The Univerity is required to have two Pro Vice Chancellors, however, currently there is only one, Professor Moses John Chimbari, who was hired from South Africa. Stakeholders believe that Gwatidzo is in the process of employing a second Pro Vice Chancellor who is not qualified.
Currently, Gwatidzo is said to have appointed Bernard Chizovachii as the Acting Vice Chancellor, overlooking Dr Chimbari.
A former lecturer at the university told Zimcelebs online newspaper that Gwatidzo has created many enemies at the university as she has been in the position for too long.
Students at the university’s Mashava campus told the newspaper that t they have to walk long distances to access the only wi-fi hotspot which is inadequate.
Students also complained of the lack of proper facilities and meals, revealing that the university’s main canteen was burnt in a fire months ago and has still not been repaired.
Before her appointment at the Great Zimbabwe university, Gwatidzo was the public relations officer at the Midlands State University since December 2009.
