In a poignant statement shared on social media, Advocate Thabani Mpofu expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the heroes and heroines of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

Reflecting on the significance of this day, he wrote, “I owe them. We owe them,” emphasizing the profound gratitude he feels for those who fought valiantly for the freedom of Zimbabwe.

On this momentous occasion, Mpofu urged citizens to remember and honor the brave individuals who laid down their lives and endured significant hardships to carve a path toward a free and prosperous nation.

He highlighted the importance of acknowledging their dreams, visions of dignity, equality, and opportunity for all Zimbabweans.

However, Mpofu did not shy away from confronting the bitter reality facing the nation today.

He stressed that the ideals for which these heroes fought seem to have been overshadowed by a challenging reality that many struggle with daily.

Despite this somber reflection, Mpofu called for action, urging the people to ignite their spirits in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. “It is time for us to rise, to reclaim the purpose of the liberation struggle,” he stated.

He urged Zimbabweans to remember that freedom encompasses not just the absence of oppression but the presence of opportunities for all.
