ZANU-PF spokesman Chris Mutsvangwa has confirmed that the recent firing of Zimbabwe’s former army commander, General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe and his appointment as the Minister of Sports, was a deliberate move to undermine the power base of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

The development has significant implications for the ongoing power struggle between Chiwenga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to Mutsvangwa, the dismissal of Sanyatwe was a tactical decision aimed at neutralizing Chiwenga’s influence within the army.

The move is seen as a strategic maneuver by Mnangagwa to consolidate his power and thwart Chiwenga’s ambitions.

The timing of Sanyatwe’s firing, which coincided with the 31 March protest against Mnangagwa’s proposed term extension, has raised eyebrows.

Mutsvangwa’s admission has sparked speculation about the intensity of the power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga.
