Former cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere says he has accepted the call to become Zimbabwe’s President.
In a statement issued yesterday, Kasukuwere said he will participate in the 2023 electoral processes as an independent candidate.
“My decision to stand as an independent candidate, painful as it is, arises out of two missed opportunities. Both in December 2017 and September 2022, our party Congress failed to allow fair competition for the presidency.”
He said President Emmerson Mnangagwa could never have won and cannot win any leadership position in a fair and open political process.
Saviour added that his candidacy is for all Zimbabweans; “including those marginalised and frightened in Zanu-PF and those in and outside other political formations”.
