Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has signed harsh anti-LGBTQ laws, including the death penalty for aggravated homosexuality.

President Museveni called homosexuality a ‘deviation from normal’ and urged lawmakers to resist ‘imperialist’ pressure.

It also imposes capital punishment for some behaviour including having gay sex when HIV positive.

The legislation has been condemned by Ugandan campaign groups, citing that it is discriminatory and it violates the rights of LGBTQ+ people
