Burkina Faso millitary chief agreed to step down two days after army officers staged a coup to overthrow Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba out of his position.

This was the second coup in the country in 10 months followed by Damiba offering his resignation letter to avoid confrontations with serious human material consequences.

“President Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba proposed his own resignation in order to avoid clashes”, said a spokesperson for the mediation efforts.

A dozen of soldiers appeared in national television and radio broadcaster to announce his removal.
