Manchester United has appointed former South Africa striker Benni McCarthy as a first-team coach.

McCarthy, who is a life-long fan of the Red Devils was announced as the new face of the coaching team via the club’s official social media account.

Manchester United announced on Twitter via post that read: ‘Welcoming a new face to our coaching team… Great to have you on board, Bennie McCarthy’.

A former forward, McCarthy is the South Africa national team’s all-time top scorer with 31 goals. He is also the only South African to have won the UEFA Champions League, doing so with Porto in 2003–04.
