Chief Charumbira elected Pan African Parliament President

Senator Chief Fortune Charumbira has been elected as the Pan African Parliament President at an election held in Midrand, South Africa on Wednesday.

Charumbira, who is a traditional chief in Zimbabwe received a total of 161 votes.

This is the first time that a Zimbabwean politician has been elected to this key position.

Charumbira’s campaign manager was Namibia’s McHenry Venaani.

In his acceptance speech, Charumbira said his first task will be to unite the continent as it is currently divided.

He said he will perform his duties of serving the African continent to the best of his abilities.
