Below is the full statement

We had a constructive and fruitful discussion with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, where we reaffirmed our shared commitment to renewed and reinvigorated Zambia-Canada relations.

The Prime Minister attested to the beginning of a new friendship in areas of mutually beneficial cooperation such as smart mineral benefication, agricultural and manufacturing supply value chains, health and girls education.

On our part, we acknowledged and admired his committment to a diverse Canada which is at the centre of the Commonwealth spirit.
We expressed our interest to respond to Canada’s quest for skilled labour by providing highly qualified Zambians to fill the Canadian human capital needs, through a transparent mutual cooperation framework.

With the Prime Minister, we agreed to collaborate on a mineral beneficiation programme as well as simplified trade regime for our SMEs.

We are on a path to a different level of meaningful bilateral cooperation between Zambia and Canada, all in our continued and deliberate efforts to secure benefits for the Zambian people!

Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia
