Ezra Tshisa Sibanda reports that Kudakwashe Mahachi appeared at Bulawayo Tradegold Court 5 before magistrate Maxwell Ncube accused of stealing his sister’s mobile phone and was remanded out of custody to 5 July 2022.

The State Prosecutor Miss Karen Gundani told the court on the 13th of June 29 year old Mahachi drove to his sister Melene’s house in Mzilikazi and asked her to come out and meet him outside.

The complainant went to where the accused was parked who was in the company of his wife Rose and friend Zibusiso Hadebe who was the driver.

Upon arrival to Kuda’s car, its alleged Kuda asked the sister if he could use her phone to track his own phone which he claimed was lost. The state further alleges that the accused person Kuda took a black IPhone XR from the sister and told the driver to start the car.

The sister asked for her phone back but Kuda refused to return it. The accused disembarked from the car and smashed the cell phone on the ground saying he wanted to destroy evidence of photos and videos.

The accused then took away the damaged cell phone and paced away along Taylor Road towards Makokoba suburbs. The complainant then headed straight to Barbourfields Police Post and made a report leading to the arrest of Kuda Mahachi.

The total value of the phone is US$400 and nothing was recovered. According to the state, Kuda had no lawful right to act in the manner he did. The sister was and is entitled to her phone but Mahachi has deprived Melene of that ownership, possession or control.
