The Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) has launched legal action to challenge South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

The permit allowed thousands of Zimbabweans to live and work in the country legally. However, in November, Cabinet took a decision not to renew them.

Zimbabweans were given 12 months to apply for other types of permits or leave.

The foundation says these people have built lives, families and careers and contributed to the economy.
