SABC News reports that South Africa Home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi has announced a series of measures to deal with long queues at home affairs offices

In his budget vote speech in parliament Tuesday, Motsoaledi blamed the long queues on immigrants needing critical documents.

He said he is determined to proceed with his plan to eradicat the “elephant in the room” that is South Africa’s immigration system.

“As I said earlier, another elephant in the room is the problem of immigration. I don’t have to outline what is taking place in our country about this problem. It is a crisis we are all well aware of.”

Motsoaledi acknowledged the frustration and anger caused by this unsavoury state of affairs and promised to bring it to an end.

He revealed that Sita has committed to spend almost R1 billion on IT infrastructure to support Home Affairs and other departments.
