A new Chinese-built expressway in Kenya, Nairobi opened to traffic for trial runs on Saturday and is expected to ease traffic jams.

The expressway stretches 27 kilometres through the heart of Nairobi, connecting Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Nairobi’s Central Business District, the National Museum and the Presidential Palace.

More than 10,000 people have already registered to use the expressway, with an average of 800 people registering every day.

Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway will be required to drive at a speed of 80km/h.

Making U-turns and reversing is prohibited on the expressway, with motorists who miss the planned exit required to proceed to the next toll station to leave.
