Zimbabwe has been hit by a deadly measles outbreak which has killed more than 20 children from 137 cases reported in Mutasa District, Manicaland.

The outbreak is mainly affecting children aged between 6 months to 15 years.

Only nine children have been vaccinated against the epidemic. 17 500 cases have been confirmed in Africa so far this year.

With a low vaccination rate, the government has resolved to start a mass vaccination campaign in areas where the outbreak was recorded.
